dallas water polo Ralph Lauren dresses athletes for the Vancouver Winter Olympics
If the stars, stripes and Polo ponies on the American Olympians competing in Vancouver, British Columbia look familiar, it’s because they were outfitted by the King of Americana: Ralph Lauren.Athletes will march in the closing ceremony parade, donning red and blue shawl collar sweaters with antique buttons, newsboy caps, plaid shirts for men and navy ribbed turtlenecks for women,
according to AP reports.”We took a lot of inspiration from the 1930’s games, reaching into the heyday of the Olympics and bringing to a more modern sensibility,” said David Lauren, the company’s senior vice president of advertising, marketing and communications. In addition to the ceremony outfits, long sleeve T shirts with bold graphics will be part of the Olympic Village wardrobe. Athletes will be cozy in white warm up jackets with red and blue stripes down the sleeves and old school alpine ski sweaters decorated with reindeer, the AP reports. This isn’t the first time Polo Ralph Lauren has dressed an Olympic team. They outfitted the summer games two years ago and have signed on through London 2012 to provide ceremonial clothing and recreational looks,
according to AP reports. The fashion designer will also design the outfits for the Paralympic teams.
